The current Commissioner of the MPS has said that ‘communities defeat terrorism’. This statement can be expanded to include other lawless behaviour from tackling street crime to social disorder.

Bringing communities together for social gain – a force multiplier – is not an easy task. It involves businesses, both large and small, residences, schools, sport centres, churches and others operating in a common space for mutual benefit.

With a panel of experts, the Police Foundation and Resilience First will explore how policing and law enforcement can help to build greater resilience among communities and businesses.

The event will discuss in particular the following questions:

  • What does the evidence base tell us about effective joint action between police, businesses and communities to tackle crime and improve community safety?
  • What practical tools exist for strengthening community resilience?
  • What is the role of neighbourhood policing in building community resilience?
  • What can business-led partnerships contribute?
